Volcanic eruption caused the collapse of China Dynasty

According to the study of Rutgers University researchers, volcanic eruption was the cause behind collapse of China dynasty. The eruption cooled down the temperature and affected agriculture of the country.

Volcanic eruption creates a thick cloud in the sky that blocks sunlight to warm the land and this leads to a weaker monsoon with less rainfall. This kind of weather affects crop harvesting heavily.

The scientists reconstructed 156 volcanic eruptions from 1 A.D. to 1915 to examine the increasing sulfate level in the ice sheets of Greenland and Antarctic.

But the scientists could not dismiss the ongoing warfare as a possible cause for collapsing the dynasty. This is why they have carefully studied the warfare going on between the year of 850 and 1911.

Volcanic eruption produces millions of tons of sulfur dioxide which constitutes sulfuric acid clouds. These clouds reflect sunlight and lower Earth’s average surface temperature.

Scientists said that volcanic eruption can cause the collapse of a dynasty when political and socioeconomic stress is already high inside a country. Other causes can be poor leadership and administrative corruption.

By this research the scientists have emphasised the need to prepare for future eruptions. Though in 20th and 21st century, the eruptions were smaller but this type of eruption leads to the Sahelian drought of the 1970s to 1990s causing 250,000 deaths and 10 million refugees.
