Mexico City made world record of providing free Wi-Fi connection

Guinness World Records has announced that Mexico City has made a world record for free Wi-Fi access and all credit goes to thousands of public internet access points across the whole city. The city has 21,500 free urban Wi-Fi network.

Carlos Tapia, the official adjudicator has presented an award to Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum for his contribution in this project.

The access points of all Wi-Fi are spread across the city of nine million people. The public transports have most of the access points. But all these connections can become saturated at times.

At the time of Covid-19 pandemic, when school were closed, many students have the service of free Wi-Fi connection to do their online classes.

The mayor of Mexico City has said that their motto is to make free internet access a right for all citizens of Mexico, specially for the disadvantaged families who has no connection at their home.
